The Real Prime Suspect

Storyline

S02E02 Ex-DCI Jackie Malton takes on the infamous case of Myra Hindley. Hindley was an English serial killer who, with her partner Ian Brady, murdered five children in and around Manchester between June 1963 and October 1965. Hindley and Brady—who became known as the Moors Murderers because of their practice of killing and burying their victims on Saddleworth Moor—were arrested in 1965 and sentenced to life imprisonment. Hindley and Brady used to prowl the streets of Greater Manchester, looking for their victims. They would then lure them into their car and drive them up to the Moor. Jackie revisits the tragic deaths of their five child victims, explores the nature of the pair’s relationship, and reexamines the truth behind Hindley’s characterisation in the press as “the most evil woman in Britain.” Contributors for this episode are Geoff Knupfer, Manchester police detective who led the search for the missing bodies in 1987, accompanied by Hindley; Bob Spiers, the officer who found the body of Lesley Ann Downey; David Holmes, criminal psychologist; Mike Berry, consultant clinical forensic psychologist; and Elizabeth Cummings, who grew up with Myra Hindley.
