Released to Kill Again
In the last 15 years nearly 100 prisoners serving life sentences, have been released from prison only to go on and commit another violent crime - even murder. It is the job of the parole board and the probation service to determine whether prisoners can be safely released into the community. Whilst this represents less than one per cent of the 25,000 cases reviewed by the Parole Board each year, Released to kill again follows the stories of three families who are trying to seek answers as to how convicted killers have been released from prison to go on and kill again. Amy and her 5 brothers are still trying to come to terms with the loss of their mother, Janet Scott, who was murdered a year ago by a man who, after serving 12 years in prison for murdering his ex partner, went on to kill her. Simon Mellors then went on to kill himself in jail so they were deprived of seeking justice through a trial. We follow Amy and her family prepare for an inquest into her death. Dog walker, Anne Nichol was murdered by 15 year old Robbie McIntosh Dundee’s Law Woods in 2002. On the 16th anniversary of her death, a week before his release from prison , whilst on home leave, he viciously attacks another dog walker, Linda McDonald. The family of John Gogarty are also seeking answers as to why their fathers’ murderer was allowed back into the community to kill again too. Nicola’s father was stabbed 69 times in his own home by Ian Birley who had twice breached his licence conditions.
