EXCLUSIVE TELEVISION PREMIERE OF THE OSCAR-WINNING DOCUMENTARY

September on DOX TV brings a unique opportunity to witness war-torn Ukraine. When the Russian army invaded the town of Mariupol in 2022, no one was aware of the devastating consequences this occupation would leave behind. In just 80 days of the siege, more than 2,000 civilians and 4,000 soldiers were killed, and the city was nearly leveled to the ground. The photographs that circulated the globe revealed the full tragedy of this assault. Ruined buildings, destroyed hospitals, and abandoned playgrounds are sights that break the heart.
The tragedy that befell Mariupol was captured by the cameras of numerous journalists, including a Ukrainian team from the Associated Press. As the only journalists remaining in the occupied city, these brave individuals documented the horrors of war firsthand. The work of one of them—award-winning journalist, director, and war reporter Mstyslav Chernov—came to light in the film "20 Days in Mariupol."
Through intimate footage and personal experience, Chernov portrayed his war-torn country. This terrifying depiction of civilians in war, seen through the perspective of war reporters, leaves a heartbreaking and chilling impact. Premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, "20 Days in Mariupol" won the hearts of audiences worldwide. Its poignant message was also recognized by critics, who unanimously declared it a "must-watch" documentary.
Alongside critical acclaim, the film won numerous awards, the most significant being the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. While it is the first Oscar for a Ukrainian film, Chernov stated that, despite the historic success, he wished he never had to make the film at all.
The television premiere of this harrowing documentary, which reveals all the horrors of war, awaits you on Sept 14 at 21:50, exclusively on DOX TV.
